The surface of our earth is made of large areas of water and large areas of dry land. There are seven large areas of dry land. These areas are called continents. On continents we find people, plants, animals and birds. The seven continents are: North America, where we live; South America, a large area of land containing the earth's largest rain forest; Africa, the land of zebras and giraffes; Europe, where people speak French, German, Italian, among other languages; Antarctica, the ice and snow covered area at the South Pole; Asia, the largest of the continents with the earth's highest point, Mount Everest; lastly, Australia, the island continent, home to kangaroos and koala bears. When the Earthcare Balloon visits your school we will locate seven large areas of land called continents. The large areas of water are called oceans. There are four oceans. The largest is the Pacific Ocean. The Pacific Ocean has thousands of islands. Hawaii is located in the Pacific Ocean. Next is the Atlantic Ocean. The Atlantic Ocean has few islands. At the North Pole we find the Artic Ocean. The Indian Ocean is near the country of India and the large continent of Africa. Madagascar is a large island located in the Indian Ocean. When the Earthcare Balloon visits, we will find all the oceans.
