In a few days you will have the opportunity to view the largest, nearly eact globe in the world. This full-coloured globe is called the Earthcare Balloon. It is 6.7 metres in diameter. Your whole class will be able to enter this portable classroom through a zipper in the Pacific Ocean. While inside the Earthcare Balloon we will be discussing and answering the following questions and locating various areas. Use resources, like the library, to answer these questions. Have fun discovering our earth!

A continent is a large area of land. There are seven continent on the earth. We live on the continent called North America.

  1. Locate the seven continents on the attached map by colouring:
              Europe - brown               Antarctica - yellow               Asia - pink
              North America - green      South America - orange
           Africa - purple
              Australia - red

  2. Which continent is the largest? Smallest?


  3. Colour everything else on the map blue.

  4. The blue on the map represents water. Is there more land or water on the earth?


  5. What are some things we need and use that come from from the oceans?


  6. Locate the North Pole. Is it cold at the North Pole? What kind of animals live here? Can you locate the South Pole?


  7. Some parts of the eart are covered with forests. What are some things we need and use that come from the forests?

  6. An island is a piece of land completely surrounded by water. Which group lives on an island?

  7. Many years ago, Plains Indians lived in tepees, Hawaiians lived in huts and Inuit lived in igloos. Which type of house would you rather live in? Why?
